Control+X then Y to save.
Control+O to save.

The following command will open a window to edit the config file:

In terminal,
gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub

..then try following the instructions above.
If that command doesn’t work, you can also edit it in the terminal by:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
